It’s no secret that cats are nocturnal animals! Although it spends most of its time sleeping (around 16 hours a day), at night it likes to hunt and do surveillance rounds around its territory. Alone all day, your cat waits for your return to start getting active, which explains why he can come and wake you up. Discover 5 tips to avoid this!
If your cat comes to wake you up while you are sleeping, it is because he is bored or not tired (unlike you). For a cat to sleep at night, it is important to have good exhaust it when it is daylight. A cat who has not exercised enough during the day will be particularly active at night. Your cat must therefore be able to exercise while you are away and it is up to you to provide several means of doing so.
1. Play with him
To let off steam for your favorite feline after a long day of solitude in your apartment, it is strongly recommended that you embark on long games wild with him as soon as you get home.
2. Leave him toys
The hunter’s instinct never really leaves a cat! Whatever their shapes and colors, it needs prey to express its nature. This need can be completely satisfied with toys, which is why it is strongly recommended to leave a few toys available for your cat, day and night.
3. Buy a Pipolino
A Pipolino is an interactive kibble or treat dispenser. The aim of this game is to make your cat think so that it extracts the food that you have placed inside. It is by rotating it that food falls from the Pipolino, and your cat must understand this. Leaving this toy with your cat before leaving allows you to keep it busy for a while and let off steam.
4. Install a cat flap
The cat flap allows your cat toaccess the outside whenever he wants. If he suddenly wants to hunt or go for a walk, he won’t need to wake you up to open the door for him.
5. Resist!
You should NEVER give in to your cat (even if he gives you the Puss in Boots look). Just once is enough for him to understand your weaknesses. If he asks you for food in the middle of the night and you get up to serve him, he will do it again. So don’t move from your bed if he comes to wake you up, he must understand that he is not the priority.
6. Anticipate
If cats wake up at dawn, it’s because they know it’s the best time to go hunting. This predatory instinct has always been in their genes. So, to prevent your cat from being woken up by this sudden desire to go and have a little bird, think about feed him in the eveningjust before you go to bed. Fill his bowl with kibble and give him a can of cat food so he can get his fill when he gets hungry without needing to wake you up.
