How to teach him to use his litter box?

The arrival of a kitten into a home is a great moment. Everyone cuddles the new arrival and has fun with it. The counterpart is less pleasant, you have to teach him to do his business in the litter box. Here are our tips for successful learning!

1. Choose an open litter box

An open litter box allows your cat to be able to observe what is happening around him while he does his business. Paradoxically, a closed tank will not allow this and the cat risks feel less safe due to lack of visual control of his environment. So buy an open bin instead. So much for the bad smells…

2. Respect the kitten’s privacy

A cat needs privacy to do its business. The litter box should be placed in a quiet place of the house to guarantee the peace of the cat when he does or goes to do his business. A cat stressed by noises or movements on the way to its litter box is likely to do its business in an unexpected and unsuitable place.

3. Keep litter away from their bowls

Although it is sometimes easier to put all the cat’s belongings in one place, the bowls should not be in the same place as the litter. The cat does not appreciate having to eat and drink alongside its needs and vice versa.

4. One litter box per cat

If you have several cats at home, you must have several litter boxes because cats don’t like to share their litter box with others!

5. Use bleach

To encourage your cat to do its business in the litter box, you can place a few drops of bleach. If your cat has already done its business once outside the litter box, you can also soak a piece of tissue with its urine and place it in its litter box.

6. React quickly

At the beginning, you must observe your cat carefully. If you see him scratching the floor or urinating outside of his litter box, you should place it immediately in its bin. It will only take a few days for your kitten to understand good manners!

7. Clean your bin regularly

The cleanliness of the litter must be checked correctly. The cat is a clean animalwho will use his bin if it is sufficiently maintained. To do this, you must make sure to clean the bin twice a week.
